Evaporator/Condenser Heat Exchanger (ECHX) and Sump

The ECHX transfers heat of vaporization from the condenser surface to the evaporator surface through thin sheet metal. After testing many designs to apply the thin film to the evaporator and continuously optimize the condensing process, a tube and shell design was chosen evaporating on the inside of tubes and condensing on the outside surface.

The shell containing tubes is cylindrical and is above the sump. The sump is on the bottom. In dual but connected compartments it holds a mixture of influent and concentrate from distillation in the main compartment and only concentrate in the other. The main compartment provides the supply of water to be distilled.
